Innovation and Start-ups in CAS

5 December Tuesday

17:30-19:30

For those who are in the early steps of their CAS career or those who would like to implement their idea by themselves, or just exploring the options, we are pleased to announce a panel session with the experts followed by a small gathering.

• we share CAS start-up stories,

• we learn basic ways of starting a start-up right after university and

• we get tips for shaping your ideas for a successful project.

Invited Speakers

Özlem Özbay is an experienced Electronics Engineer who has worked in companies of various scales. She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, in 1993 and 1995. She also received another M.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, from Ohio State University, in 2000.

After graduation, she worked as an Application Engineer at Lucent Technologies in Columbus, Ohio.

In 2002, she returned to Turkey and started to work at Aselsan. At Aselsan, she has served in several positions, such as system, project, and design quality engineer. She has retired as Design Management and Technologies Department Manager in 2021.

Currently, she is a project engineer at Adhoc Teknoloji, a fast-growing start-up for designing high-tech solutions in Communication Technologies.

Melike Atay Karabalkan has great experience in CAS design at various projects. She received her BSc in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Yıldız Technical University and received her MSc in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Istanbul Technical University. Her research interests during graduate were image processing and digital design.

She is currently working as Engineering Manager in ElectraIC. She is involved in digital design, modelling and advanced verification areas of multi-site, multi-culture high technology R&D projects. She has developed many digital signal processing designs using VHDL and Verilog. Also, she has developed MATLAB models of these designs and TCL scripts for automatized verification. Prior to joining ElectraIC Melike worked for Koc Information and Defense Technologies for 2 years. Her main role was to develop an IP Core Library using VHDL for Sonar Signal Processing applications. Prior to Koc Information and Defense Technologies, she worked as a researcher at TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) for 4 years where she designed Elint and Comint Sytems using VHDL as well as C++ and MATLAB. She participated in several conferences on signal processing and digital design. So far, she has 8 scientific publications at various conferences as a result of her research.

Anıl Akseki is one of the enthusiast co-founders of Originzero. He earned his Bachelor''s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Koc University. During college, he worked on a research project funded by TUBITAK, focusing on improving blood oxygenators and hollow fiber membranes. He took a lead role in designing mechanical systems and PCBs, using MATLAB and C programming. The collaborative effort resulted in an open-source article about enhancing the fiber winding system for hollow fiber membranes.

While still in college, he started an R&D company specializing in system design. After graduating, he co-founded Originzero, a project creating a user-friendly web app for Visual Programming and Data Management, along with modular embedded devices. Originzero is in progress and expected to hit the market in 2024.

To fund Originzero, he launched Filasophia, a brand addressing challenges in FDM 3D printing. His inventions solve warpage and shifting problems, allowing users to print various special plastics. Filasophia is set to launch recently. Looking ahead, he aims to automate biopharmaceutical production systems fully.

Akın Şibay is one of the enthusiast co-founders of Originzero. He received his B.S. degrees in Electric-Electronics Engineering from Marmara University, in 2018. During his school years, he worked on electric motors and electrical control systems by using MATLAB, C, C# and Assembly. He completed his long-term internship at the Oyak Renault factory and worked on PLC and SCADA programming.

After graduation, he worked as a Project Engineer at APRA Engineering and Consulting company in Bursa. Here, he worked on many projects in the field of industrial automation and IoT for well-established organizations such as TOFAŞ, FORD, Accuride and Rözmaş. He has served in several positions such as automation, software, planning and project engineer.

In 2020, he started to work at Anaks R&D Corporation as a Software Engineer. He is involved in embedded systems, automation systems, web software development, planning, high technology R&D projects.

While working in Anaks, he co-founded Originzero. His main role is to develop Visual Programming and Data Managament Software by using web technologies and determine sales strategies for 3 years.
